Chateauneuf-sur-Loire

 Monday 4 August

A day exploring Chateauneuf went to plan, crossing the river to walk along the promenade and then through the wooden park.  Something of note was that the footpath over the bridge was very narrow and the tarmac had suffered with the hot sun, maybe when it was laid, so that there were lumps all the way across.  Looking across at the town from our campsite.

I rather liked this garden.
A highlight of the walk was finding our 5000th geocache.  To be celebrated this evening with our bottle of bubbly.
The English/German gang.
The remaining part of a very large chateau.

The last picture of me before.....

....  we had a much-needed drink at a cafe and set off across the bridge on the previously-mentioned narrow lumpy path ....

....but one of those lumps tripped me up and wham! I was head first on the pavement, then rolling into the kerb.  3 special people came quickly to my aid of course, but I was bleeding profusely from my forehead, dripping all down my face, onto one of my favourite blouses and shorts.  A very kind lady stopped her car which slowed down the traffic and came to help too.  Between them, they decided I was going to need stitches, so this lady called the emergency services and soon 3 ambulance/firemen arrived.  None of them spoke any English, but we muddled through, sometimes using translate on a phone.  Anyway they took me to the University Hospital in Orleans (half and hour or so away) with John on board and Tilman following behind in their van (so he could bring us back).  The A&E were wonderful, especially Frank, my Doctor who gave me 4 stitches and a sling for my left arm, because I realised that was hurting quite a bit and an X-ray showed a slight fracture just before my elbow.

We were back to our site by 8.30 and had a very make-shift tea of bread and cheese.  But future photos with me in will look slightly different from now on!!

PS  Typing is extremely difficult, so today's pics will have to wait another day.
