Chateau-Renault - Montoire-sur-Loir

 Friday8 August

 Another very hot day, so went for a short walk in the morning to a little chapel before leaving Amboise.  Unfortunately, couldn't find the geo there, but a pretty spot.

 

 We travelled the short way to Chateau-Renault then just chilled out for the whole of the afternoon!  Tilman and Barbara had got there earlier than us and had sussed out a restaurant for us to eat at this evening.

 and veal with thinly sliced vegetables piled up and cut as a slice for me.

 

 

Saturday 9 August

 We were up with the alarm at 6.50 this morning to say goodbye to Tilman and Barbara as they left us at 7.00 to take their van back to Paris and then spend the weekend with Adrian and Sophie.  We had an early walk up to the ruined chateau while it wasn't too hot.  This is the Hotel de Ville, built on the spot of the original castle.  Not a bad looking town hall!

 We returned to the van and then moved a few miles north to Montoire-sur-Loir (a much smaller river than the the Loire) and settled at a very spacious site with plenty of trees to shade us.  So another very chilled out afternoon keeping cool and resting.  We left a walk-about till after our meal, after the sun had gone down.  Discovered it's not such an attractive town, especially as the town centre is all being set up for a huge fair and music festival next week.  But a few corners worth photographing.

Thank you for messages received since my accident.  Much appreciated.  Finding my aching arm rather tiresome - so difficult doing things all bound up with the sling.  I've taken it off to do the blog though, but not moving left arm much.  Impossible to type one-handed.  From tomorrow we shall be starting to journey towards home on Tuesday, visiting 2 more places en route.

Getting Ready to go again!

 We've come to another 'getting-ready' day for our final trip of three this year.  Our second trip was at the end of May and wasn't blogged.  That was because it was shorter, but very different, with no time to  be blogging!  Our lovely German friends had invited us to their 133rd birthday party in a beautiful hotel in Munsterland where they and their family and friends made us very welcome.  They asked that their gift could be an 'experience' with them.   So this trip will include the above 'experience' - so you'll need to watch this space..... But before that, we are looking forward to meeting up with Peter (son) and Hannah (and hopefully granddaughter Emilie) for a few days in the Alsace.  Later today we will be at the Canterbury Park & Ride as usual, and spending the evening with our 'old' friends in Bridge.  Then ferry tomorrow morning.

Amboise-sur-Loire

 Tuesday 5 August  Today we travelled further along the Loire to Amboise.  A beautiful, but very busy town.  The campsite is full but we have two large pitches under trees, so very happy.  We spent the afternoon looking around the town and finding a hidden-away restaurant for tomorrow evening - found and booked.  The chateau from our golden island in the river - Ile d'Or - and a close-up view.  Early evening we watched 2 balloons launched from the other side of the hedge. this one went up over us! Barbara made our starter this evening - Banana Soup!  It was curried and tasted wonderful.  Just seemed strange ingredients to us - including 4 ripe bananas!  We also shared the champagne that we should have had last night!    Wednesday 6 August Before we move on to today, here are some historic ones that you are very anxious to see, I know! Arleux - Montmedy

 Tuesday 22 July After a bit of satnav trouble at the start of our journey (it was like we were staying in one spot), we got on our way east towards the Northern Alsace.  Looking for a good place to stop for coffee, we hoped that there would be somewhere to park by the canal when we reached the small town of Catillon-sur-Sambre.  Yes there was, so we carried our drinks and biscuit to a seat behind a couple of very serious fishermen.  We were admiring all their kit when we spotted a boat coming along the Canal de la Sambre.  Ah, but the road bridge was right beside us!  The chap who operates the lift bridge arrived in his white van, and up went the bridge, so we had the added entertainment of the boat, the bridge and the fishermen! There's a small parking area just to the left of where we are sitting (we parked by the road) and the fishermen had just put all their gear back in place for fishing again after the boat passed, when a lady came in in her car!...
